Your Weekend Viewing: The Anachronism

In case you can't tell, director Matthew Gordon Long is a fan of the steampunk aesthetic. I love the central prop here... wonderfully designed.

Long asks an interesting question on his blog:

It strikes me that my progress is a mirror of the film industry’s transition from analog to digital over the last decade. I can see a career path where I never shoot a feature on 35mm. I belong to a transitional generation of filmmakers. Are we the crest of a New Wave, or are we a “lost generation” falling through the cracks?

Hard to say. As exciting as it is to live in this time of transition, it also means that we are the ones who make all the mistakes for the next generation. Not a lot of people are watching The Jazz Singer or "Steamboat Willie" out of anything other than historical curiosity. Anyway, "The Anachronism" could be read as a metaphor for this.

Or not. Just enjoy it.
