RIP John Hughes

John Hughes took his final day off today. He was 59.

John Hughes, the director and screenwriter who helped define a young generation with his ’80s films “Sixteen Candles,” “The Breakfast Club” and “Pretty in Pink,” has died, according to The Associated Press.

Michelle Bega, a spokeswoman for the filmmaker, said that Mr. Hughes died of a heart attack in Manhattan during a morning walk.

--NY Times

There was a time where I truly believe Hughes had cracked the code. He had an amazing string of movies that were great entertainment from start to finish and really came to define family and teen films for the kids of my generation (and before). He was said to shoot very little coverage, having the movie edited in his head before cameras rolled. If you go back and watch a movie like Ferris Beuhler's Day Off with this in mind, as I have done, you'll see that clarity of vision.

Requiescat in pace.
