Are there too many film festivals?

Andy Friedenberg thinks so.

A cartoon in a newspaper said it best — two people looking at a large rock dangling precariously at the end of a cliff. The caption reads: ”That would be a good place for a film festival.” Someone once told me that there are more film festivals in the U.S. than Starbucks Coffee outlets!

If you’re considering traveling to a film festival, do your homework, and go to those festivals that truly have been created for all the right reasons. For my “A” list, it’s Toronto, Palm Springs, American Film Institute Film Festival in Hollywood, Telluride and Sundance. Here in San Diego, my list includes the Latino, Jewish, BestFest, Underwater and the young, emerging Italian Film Festival.
