I’m in the process of figuring out what bonus features I can and should include on the ‘Stull’ DVD. But I won’t say anything about them till they are on the disc.
Because I’ve learned not to promise features that I don’t deliver. Like FOX did:
DVD Alert: We are aware that special features were missing from a number of Slumdog Millionaire DVDs. Fox has set up a hotline telephone number (1-888-223-4FOX) for those consumers who may have purchased a version that does not contain special features.
Since DVDs are selling less, bonus feature budgets are being cut. Bonus features have always been a big part of the DVD value proposition (and, I consider the good ones a valuable resource for filmmakers).
I don’t think this was a conspiracy by FOX, probably just a screw-up by their manufacturer, who put the ‘rental version’ in the ‘consumer version’ box. But you still have to wonder if they won’t make use of the data about how many people called to have their discs replaced vs. how many didn’t.
