By now, unless you’ve been living in a cage, you’ve heard of RED’s official announcement of their 3k ‘consumer’ camera, the Scarlet.

Here are the official features, subject to change, according to the official brochure:
* NEW 2/3″ MYSTERIUM X SENSOR
* 1-120 FPS (180FPS BURST)
* UP TO 100 MB/SEC REDCODE RAW AND RGB RECORDING TO DUAL COMPACT FLASH
* 4.8″ LCD
* 8X T2.8 RED ZOOM LENS
* FULL AUTO OR FULL MANUAL SHOOTING MODES
* HDMI and HD-SDI
* FIREWIRE 800 and USB2
* STILL MODE
* COMPATIBLE WITH MANY RED ONE ACCESSORIES
* WI-FI CONTROL

The #1 complained about spec on the RedUser boards appears to be the lack of interchangeable lenses. And there is no mention of audio.

Those same boards speculate the price of the Scarlet will be between $3,000 (3k, get it?) and $5,000. Depending upon accessories. All speculation. All we really know is that it will cost at base less than the Red One, which costs $17,500 base.

Without a set list of features or a set price, is it even worth getting worked up?
