I definitely see more of a trend towards Final Cut Pro and laptop editing — but I don’t see it in the big leagues, where everyone is proficient and comfortable with their full Avid suites. Most open-minded editors are flexible about what they work on. A lot of documentary editors I’ve worked with like the way Final Cut handles mixed media like photos and different video formats on the same timeline. All the editors say one thing when I ask about Avid’s advantages: Trim Mode.
