I’ve been watching the Up documentary series on DVD over the last few weeks. I disagree with the filmmaker about what it demonstrates:
I think that there is some innate personality that never changes. If you’re an introvert at seven, you’re likely to still be one and vice versa.
I think the changes that happen to the subjects between the ages of 7 and 35 are remarkable. Some people do indeed go from introverted to extroverted. As I see it, anyway.
UPDATE: There is also a great, if audio-challenged, interview between Apted and Roger Ebert on the 49Up DVD. A less penetrating interview can be found on Elvis Mitchell’s The Treatment.
